API (Academic Performance Index) Test Scores for 2013
Great news: Our API grew 25 points from 906 to 931 from 2012 to 2013. It went up because we moved so many learners to higher levels on the state tests.
Sherman named a 2012 Honor Roll School by California Business for Education Excellence
On April 16th, California Business for Education Excellence (CBEE) named Sherman Elementary School to their Honor Roll for 2012. Additionally, because of Sherman's particularly high achievement in math and science, we are also being designated as one of the 100 STEM Honor Roll schools.
California Business for Education Excellence is a leading, unifying voice for California business leaders who are committed to improving public education, closing the achievement gap and helping to ensure college readiness and success. The mission of CBEE (www.cbee.org) is to use the power of data to improve public education and close the achievement gap. Since 1998, CBEE has worked to focus businesses around a common agenda for high performing public schools leading to increased baccalaureate degrees and economic productivity. CBEE serves as the business community’s leading voice in education in California.
The 2012 Honor Roll includes public elementary, middle and high schools recognized for demonstrating consistently high levels of student academic achievement, improvement in achievement over time, and reduction in achievement gaps. For high schools, Honor Roll recognition includes measures of college readiness. This year, CBEE also recognized 6 higher performing, higher poverty school districts that include a high percentage of Honor Roll schools, and that are distinguished for their academic achievement and closing achievement gaps.
The list of Honor Roll schools continues to grow thanks to the hard work and effective practices of thousands of excellent principals, teachers and support personnel in our public schools. Since 2005 the Honor Roll increased from 261 high performing schools to an inspiring 2,108 high performing schools in 2012. This is a testament to the relentless focus on results for students that educators have shown over the years. It is also a strong statement about how success is spreading in public schools across the state.
More details about the CBEE and the Honor Roll is at their website (http://www.cbee.org). The details of Sherman's results are at http://www.edresults.org/honorroll/stem12/stem.php#38684786041578.

On Thursday March 29th 2012, Sherman was one of only nine San Francisco public elementary schools which were among the 387 2012 California Distinguished Schools announced by the state. The schools were recognized for innovative programs helping to close the achievement gap between the test scores of black and Hispanic students and their white and Asian peers. You can see more details in the San Francisco Examiner article.
