Our Library

The library program at Sherman supports the District mission of providing every student “with an equal opportunity… to achieve his or her maximum potential.” Students visit the library once a week with their class for storytime or a library skills lesson led by our certificated librarian, Clare Watsky, who also collaborates with teachers to create exciting, effective learning experiences and to teach students to find and evaluate information from both print and online sources. The library’s large collection of books meets both students’ educational and recreational reading needs.

The library partners with the San Francisco Public Library (SFPL) to help students obtain library cards and to promote SFPL’s superb programs and resources. Schoolwide events sponsored by the library include Reading, Writing and Storytelling Night, Read Aloud Day, and a Used Book Sale. The library’s spacious, light-filled rooms and well-stocked shelves demonstrate the value the Sherman community places on literacy, as well as its belief that reading and learning are a lifelong source of empowerment and joy.
