Sherman
Annual Fund

We did it again! In the past year,
we had another impressive jump in Sherman’s Academic
Performance Index (API) scores, rising 24 points to 891
(1000 is the highest possible score) - once again a
Top-10 school in the entire city! As you know,
Sherman Elementary School has emerged as one of the
best-performing, most-sought-after elementary schools in
San Francisco. Congratulations to all the parents,
staff and students who have worked so hard to help with
this achievement.
We have begun the Sherman Annual
Fund Drive, and we need your help!
The Sherman PTA must raise
$110,000 this coming school year to meet our
financial goals and commitments to the students and
staff of Sherman Elementary School, and much of that
money is raised through the Annual Fund Drive. We simply
MUST meet our goals if we are to avoid any serious
impact to those programs you and your family have come
to rely on as part of the daily life at Sherman
Elementary.
In light of the "funding gap"
that has developed in public education, private
donations and outside grants are absolutely essential
to delivering the high-quality programs and
activities that you and your children expect and
deserve. While San Francisco Unified School District
pays for Sherman's facilities and maintenance,
teacher/principal salaries and benefits, a front office
staff, and custodians, among other things, it is, in
fact, our own fundraising efforts that support all other
vital programs.
If we can reach our goal of raising
$110,000, we will be able to maintain all the programs
we currently have that benefit your child directly.
While there are many programs your donation helps pay
for, here are a few specific examples of what your gift
could fund:
-
$50 pays for one classroom’s
office supplies
-
$100 pays for 1 week of garden
maintenance
-
$250 pays for half of the 5th
grade yearbook
-
$500 pays for close to 1 week
of choral music
-
$1000 pays for one week of
full-time drawing and painting for the entire school
-
$2,500 pays for all needed K-1
classroom support, including all field trips
-
$5,000 pays for 2 months of
full time Sports4Kids
If we were able to exceed our goals
by even 25-30%, raising an additional $30,000, we could
start to invest in future capital projects like
Smartboards for more classrooms, a new sound system for
the school, musical instruments for all 4th and 5th
graders, and a significantly improved PE program for all
kids. These are just a few examples.
Please help us reach our goal by making a donation today
to the Sherman Annual Fund!!!
Consider
what your child’s education is worth to you and to
him/her, and then consider what you can afford to
contribute to the Annual Fund. Imagine- if every Sherman
family donated $275 per student at the school (close to
400 students), we would reach our goal of $110,000! Even
a $100 gift per student would raise $40,000 towards our
final goal. Whatever amount your family can afford is
appreciated. Our goal this year is 100%
participation.
Use the enclosed form to make your
tax-deductible contribution by check or you may make a
secure online credit card donation.
For budgeting purposes, we ask you to make your gift
NO LATER THAN December 19th, 2008, if possible.
Thank You!!
